.MOBI Domain Name Registrations
More and more people use mobile devices to access online content, so the need for mobile-friendly websites is ever growing. To meet this demand, the organization that regulates the universal top-level domain extensions, ICANN, established the .MOBI domain name extension in 2005. The first registrations were enabled in September 2006, and the notion behind this domain name extension is that all websites that use it are required to comply with special terms. In other words, all dot MOBI websites have to be built to be viewed flawlessly by mobile devices in accordance with the so-called “MWI Best Practices for mobile content” created by the W3C Mobile Web Initiative (MWI) in cooperation with the dot MOBI Registry organization. These have to do with how a web page is being navigated, the way it is being displayed (form and size), etc.
The regulations have provoked some concerns since the top-level extension is the only one that specifies what devices must be able to open a website and the way in which this has to happen, breaking the so-called principles of device independence, according to which a web page should be created in such a way as to be opened by most web browser applications and devices, be they mobile or stationary.
As the dot MOBI Registry organization does not offer domains directly, you can secure a dot MOBI domain with any 3rd-party firm, such as ours. If you have an already registered domain, you can also move it over to our firm if you get its EPP code from your current registrar. If you do that, you’ll be able to administer your domain(s) and hosting account from one and the same place – our Hepsia Control Panel.
